Description:

Freeing the Neck
Series Dates: April 6, 13, 20, 27

The head, neck and back relationship profoundly influences the coordination of the whole body. The neck is the conduit through which movements of the head and back attain fluency. Restoring suppleness to the neck contributes a sense of ease, lightness and well-being to all action. In this 4-week class series we’ll use simple, easy-to-do exercises that will improve the range, flexibility and coordination of our necks, and thereby we’ll gain an ability to move with more ease and comfort. No prior Feldenkrais Method®/Awareness Through Movement® experience necessary. Wear warm, comfortable clothes that allow for movement.

About Awareness Through Movement® lessons:
“I usually make clear that the point of my work is to lead to awareness in action, or the ability to make contact with one’s own skeleton and muscles and with the environment practically simultaneously. This is not ‘relaxation’, for true relaxation can be maintained only when doing nothing. The aim is not complete relaxation but healthy, powerful, easy and pleasurable exertion. The reduction of tension is necessary because efficient movement should be effortless. Inefficiency is sensed as effort and prevents doing more and better.”—Moshe Feldenkrais, Body and Mind, 1980.
