Music is not just one note after another, nor is a Feldenkrais lesson one movement after another. There are parallels between how music is composed, or improvised, and how an Awareness Through Movement lesson is composed or a Functional Integration lesson improvised. Exploring thematic development in music can show how to present a lesson that is unified yet varied. Demonstrating and understanding musical form can help us create a lesson from beginning to middle to end. We will listen to music and analyze the structure of Feldenkrais lessons against the background of musical composition.
Bob Schlesinger (2007), a professional musician for thirty years, has been touring the country playing jazz, the blues, and R&B. He has a degree in music theory and composition, composes music for film, and teaches piano and the Feldenkrais Method in Boulder, CO. He presented this workshop in his training with rave reviews!
