By appreciating motor development as “repetition without repetition,” Nicholas Bernstein began a revolution in movement science at the same time Moshe Feldenkrais pioneered the method that bears his name. How does Feldenkrais’ functional approach stack up with the dynamic, systemic, ecological framework Professor Turvey presents in the Symposium? Pivotal ideas from his talk – perception-action, context-dependence, self-organization, meta-stability, tensegrity, and developing dexterity – provide a fresh look at how learning happens and abilities develop. Working individually and with others, we’ll find how these concepts and distinctions can help us become more effective educators.
This workshop is intended for a professional audience. Professionals are individuals trained in disciplines relating to human development (such as teachers or other educators, psychologists and psychotherapists), in performance (including sports and the arts), and health care. Professionals include practitioners, researchers and administrators in these fields.
Larry Goldfarb, PhD, GCFT (1983), became fascinated by the Feldenkrais Method® before the Amherst training ended, and his fascination has continued since he earned a doctorate in kinesiology. Larry brings what he learned to demystifying the method in teacher trainings, public workshops, and individual lessons. He is committed to articulating the logic of Feldenkraisian pedagogy and developing its practice. Larry is the founder of http://www.mindinmotion-online.com.
