We create an internal sense of self in relation to our body schema and body image that is multifaceted and dynamic. In this workshop, we will explore ways to influence this complex neuro-matrix through the Feldenkrais Method®. Body image links inextricably with a sense of ownership and agency – how we self en-act in the world. Through brief theoretical discussions, Awareness Through Movement® and Functional Integration® lessons, and self-reflection, participants will gain knowledge about the neuroscience behind the processes of body image. In this way we can better understand and address the needs of our clients and develop how to explicitly sculpt these processes using the Feldenkrais Method as the medium.
Susan Hillier, PhD (1991) is an Assistant Trainer and neuroscientist. She works part-time teaching and researching in neuroscience and also maintains a Feldenkrais® practice in Adelaide, Australia. Her particular interest lies in the role of sensation of how we perceive ourselves, our world and how we behave.
