Feldenkrais® Resources Training Institute is extremely pleased to present Walk for Life with Ruthy Alon. Please join us for this special event: a 5-day workshop with Ruthy. The program will take place in Oakland, CA.
Learn to improve the basic function of a dynamic, lively, and healthy walk.
This 5-day workshop—WALK FOR LIFE—will include walking outdoors by nearby Lake Merritt with the use of Walking Poles, as well as indoor Movement Laboratory with simple, yet sophisticated and effective strategies to improve the quality of walking.
The program’s model is derived from evolutionary patterns of
locomotion that have proven their efficiency throughout millions of years of survival.
The Indoor Movement Laboratory Elements:
Coordination: Committing to harmonious cooperation between all body parts with a Feldenkrais® integrative perspective, awakening our organic intelligence of spontaneous self-correction.
Propulsion: Refining the alternating shift of weight from one leg to the other in walking, and learning the undulating rhythmical, multidimensional wave for generating the propulsion of walking.
Impact: Accentuating the outsmarting of gravity in auto-mobilization by striking the foot onto the ground, in a way that loads the body with the rebounding impact of upward elastic forces.
Alignment: Training the skeleton to incessantly re-create its alignment into a streamlined trajectory for the transmission of the two-way force, the body mass bearing down, as well as the springy reaction up, streaming from end to end, without loss, deviation, or compression, in a domino-effect quality.
Walking with Poles: Walking Poles are used not only as support for equilibrium, but also to revive the arms primal function of the quadrupeds’ front legs. Using the poles for walking produces a counter force which thrusts the shoulder blade backward to the spine, restoring vital flexibility of the most stiff and non negotiable area of the upper back.
The poles also empower the ballistic factor of propulsion. Through being an extension of the arms, they reach to interact with the ground, generating an impact of a higher mobilization potency, than what a human’s bi-pedal leg can produce.
Ruthy Alon is one of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais’s original students, and a Feldenkrais Senior Trainer who teaches worldwide. She is the creator of the Bones For Life Program (http://www.bonesforlife.com), author of MINDFUL SPONTANEITY (North Atlantic Books) and creator of the Movement Intelligence Programs - Bones for Life and many audio CD and DVD programs available through Feldenkrais® Resources.
Required equipment: Participants are asked to bring a mat, a set of Walking Poles (with Urban Tips) and a piece of fabric for use as a wrap.
FABRIC: The fabric wrap is 7 meters (7 yds. of 21"x 45” wide cotton fabric), purchased at JoAnn Fabrics it is called “Country Classic” which is found in the quilter’s section or at an equivalent store.
WALKING POLES: If you already own walking poles, please bring them. Or if you need to purchase a pair, we recommend the Highland Cork Air Shock from Komperdell. They have the anti-shock option and a cork handle, telescoping pole so one size fits all and come with tips for using in urban settings. For more information, go to:
Poles purchased through FRTI are $55 per pair (includes
shipping/handling and tax). Urban tips are $2 per pair. Poles purchased through FRTI are available for pick at registration on the first day of the program.
