Feldenkrais Method® Workshop
The ankles play a crucial role in maintaining and supporting our upright posture. The ankles sense details about the body’s movement relative to the ground, as well as information about the quality of the surface (i.e. hard, uneven, etc). This information is used to coordinate all our standing activities and enables us to be able to move and return into balance effectively. In this workshop we’ll use simple, easy-to-do exercises to restore the dynamic range and use of the ankles which can profoundly affect our walking and balancing. No prior Feldenkrais®/Awareness Through Movement® experience necessary. Wear warm, comfortable clothes that allow for movement.
About Awareness Through Movement:
“I usually make clear that the point of my work is to lead to awareness in action, or the ability to make contact with one’s own skeleton and muscles and with the environment practically simultaneously. This is not ‘relaxation’, for true relaxation can be maintained only when doing nothing. The aim is not complete relaxation but healthy, powerful, easy and pleasurable exertion. The reduction of tension is necessary because efficient movement should be effortless. Inefficiency is sensed as effort and prevents doing more and better.”
