GOING STRAIGHT TO THE BOSS:
The Role of the Nervous System in Healing Musculo-skeletal Injury an Introduction to Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement®
Have you recently injured a knee,a shoulder, or some other part of yourself? Do you have a nagging pain that doesn’t seem to resolve? Are you suffering from a chronic condition that makes it painful to move?
The traditional allopathic approach to healing focuses in on the hurting part and tries to fix it. Sometimes this approach is perfectly matched to the problem. (Take my appendix, please!) In the case of musculo-skeletal injury, focusing in on the hurting part leaves out the important role of the rest of the musculo-skeletal system. Since no part of our skeleton stands alone, no pain-creating problem occurs solely in one place.
Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement brings balance and healing to the musculo-skeletal system by changing the system that governs it — the nervous system.
In this Awareness Through Movement workshop, Sheri will lead you through an intelligent sequence of slow, small movements, guiding your attention to your bodily sensations. As you cultivate ease in your movements, your nervous system will respond immediately by relaxing and de-stressing, creating the perfect internal environment for you to learn something new. You will learn to distinguish more clearly between efficient and harmful movement, discover new, more comfortable pathways of movement, and engage your nervous system in a process of self-correction and whole-self healing.
This is an introductory workshop. No movement experience is required. (This workshop is not meant to replace medical care. If you are under supervision for a medical condition, please consult with your doctor before attending.)
