Event Description: As Dr. Feldenkrais writes in The Potent Self: In any coordinated, well-learned action, we can distinguish four sensations: no effort, no resistance, easy breathing and poise-this is the experience of the Feldenkrais® State.
What does it mean to live in the Feldenkrais State? It is a state of graceful activity, where we feel lightness and ease in each of our movements. Our erect, potent posture makes freedom of movement easy in any direction, and our breathing is full and easy without our having to make conscious efforts.
Discomfort and difficulties are part of every life. The Feldenkrais State boosts our resiliency and ability to rebound after setbacks. In this way, Awareness Through Movement® lessons dissolve pain and restore equanimity.
Most importantly, what Dr. Feldenkrais’ Method teaches us is to be free of compulsion and become masters of our own lives. We learn to act with single intention and poise, and the ability to change whatever we are doing at any moment, spontaneously responding to changing circumstances.
In the ATM® process, students enter a deep form of self-awareness that has dramatic potential for change. This workshop will contain four elegant lessons that bring about the Feldenkrais State and teach how to transfer this capacity throughout the rest of our lives. The variety of lessons will ensure that every student will find appropriate movements irrespective of age or physical ability.
