How Your Breathing Influences Your Balance

Improve your posture, your balance (on one leg or two) and your walking in this four class series. The specific themes of standing and breathing will be interwoven in ways to allow you to experience a more balanced and relaxed upright posture. From this state of high potential your movement can feel less restricted, less effortful and more pleasant. This new found presence can be taken directly into your walking, running, dancing, yoga, or other activities.
In the subtitle to Moshe Feldenkrais’ book Awareness Through Movement he describes the process as “Easy-to-Do Health Exercises to Improve Your Posture, Vision, Imagination, and Personal Awareness.” In these structured movement lessons, the teacher uses a combination of pleasant, purposeful movement and guided attention to lead the class through particular patterns of movement and action. Unlike traditional exercise, where the objective is to burn calories, stretch or train willpower for its own sake, Awareness Through Movement® lessons teach us how to reduce unnecessary muscular effort and improve our awareness of our whole self in action. This emphasis on sensory learning results in movement that is more flexible, pleasurable and free from aches and pains.
Open to everyone, no experience necessary. Please wear socks and warm clothing that allows for easy movement.
