Event Description: How can we deepen and inspire our Functional Integration® lessons? How can we make our lessons more functional and effective? Throughout Moshe Feldenkrais’ writings specific ideas deeply rooted in biology, physiology and evolutionary theory appear as repeating threads and are the foundation upon which Feldenkrais developed Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement®. Most of these concepts center around the basic requirements of human life, eg.; variety in action, acture, equilibrium, mobility, support, learning, anticipation, uncertainty, safety, orientation, fear, pleasure, and conservation of energy.

These biological imperatives underlying the Feldenkrais Method® are essential concepts which can enable you to begin communicating with another nervous system at a profoundly meaningful level. You will be able to increase your understanding of Awareness Through Movement, your effectiveness in Functional Integration, and be able to better communicate in the language of the nervous system.

David Zemach-Bersin is one of Dr. Feldenkrais’ original American students, a graduate of Feldenkrais’ only completed U.S. training program in San Francisco. He studied closely with Dr. Feldenkrais from 1973-1984 in the U.S., Europe and Israel. He is widely recognized for his clarity of teaching and is the long time Director of the New York City and Washington/Baltimore Feldenkrais® Professional Training Programs. He is a graduate of UC Berkeley with extensive post-graduate work in physiological psychology, and is the co-author with Mark Reese of Relaxercise (HarperCollins) and many audio programs. David is a past President of The Feldenkrais Guild®, is co-founder of both Feldenkrais Resources and the Feldenkrais Institute of New York. He and his wife Kaethe, a children’s book writer and illustrator, have three grown children and live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

“No one understands Functional Integration® better than David Zemach-Bersin. David has incredible mastery of both the creative spirit and technique of Functional Integration.”
Mark Reese, Ph.D.

“Dear David: I can’t thank you enough for your artistry.”
Richard Goode, World Renowned Pianist

Feldenkrais’ insights and your remarkably effective teaching about the link between postural neuromuscular and autonomic interactions is having a huge effect, both personally and neuroscientifically, so I’m writing with gratitude: your teaching is transformative on every level. Though Moshe Feldenkrais deserves enormous credit, it seems to me that your embodied genius has been a critical influence in the continuing development and propagation of the Method. At this stage of my development, your teaching is the Difference that mades a Fundamental Difference.”
Sascha du Lac, Ph.D., Neuroscientist, The Salk Institute and Feldenkrais Practitioner

I really enjoyed the weekend. Your preparation, scope, intentions, as well as teaching, were wonderful and so relevant. I really feel the moving forward aspect of your work. As well, the atmosphere of ease and enjoyment in learning was palpable. Thanks for creating what you are creating. Uplifting, as well as clear and informative…”
Donna Blank, Feldenkrais Trainer

I want to thank you for the magnificent advanced training. The learning for me was so profound and I have been able to bring it into my practice immediately. Thank you for continually sharing your knowledge and gifts learned from Dr. Feldenkrais. I am forever in awe of his and your skills and ability to listen and follow the path that awakens in each of us our innate learning.”
Peggi Honig, Feldenkrais Practitioner, Maryland

“After suffering a serious stroke 10 years ago, my doctor told me I would never walk again. Thanks to David Zemach-Bersin I am still walking today.”
Dora Good, M.A.
