Description:
Somatic Education Practices — such as The Alexander Technique, The Feldenkrais Method®, Eutony, Ideokinesis, and Body-Mind Centering — all share an experiential basis for enhancing our sensory awareness and developing optimal motor control by intrinsically re-learning how to “re-perceive our body from within”; attending to implicit conditioning of “feed-forward” as a synergistic complement to “feedback.” Through a synergistic blend of guided imagery, effective mediation of actions, and experimental constructs, this retreat-like workshop will give you the opportunity to explore more concretely the perceptual relationships of embodiment afforded through directed attention and the re-framing of conceptual mappings embedded within the multidimensional construct your own background body schema. A new inventory tool: The Multi-Dimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) will be introduced as a template to reflect upon our implicit experience more explicitly. Participants should be comfortable lying on a padded floor and exploring unique movement configurations.
