Competitive Running

Sharon Starika is a runner and triathlete with over 20 years of competitive racing experience.  Her involvement with the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education began in 1984 when she had a debilitating cycling accident resulting in nine surgeries.  Her doctors said she would never compete again and probably would not be able to run.  Using the Feldenkrais Method, she not only recovered and returned to competition, she improved her marathon time by an astonishing 20 minutes.  As a result Sharon became a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitionercm & Assistant Trainer and developed her own theory & ideas about optimizing fitness using the Feldenkrais Method.

Sharon and her daughter Mia have now lived here in Park City for four years.  Prior to moving to Park City, Sharon had never run a trail event, or even on a trail and now she is leading workshops and seminars on trail running as well as competing.

Sharon has run the triple challenge event 2009, 2010, 3rd in the Steeple chase, 2009 1st place in 1/2 Marathon 2009, overall 2nd place triple challenge.  Then in 2010, placing 2nd in the Steeple chase, 1st in 1/2 Marathon, 2nd place overall time in the triple challenge.  Sharon took 1st place masters group in the 2010 in the Logan Marathon, 2nd place in the Lander, Wyoming 1/2 Marathon.

Due to a ski accident this past winter getting off the ski chair lift, Sharon tore off her right patella.  Once again, Sharon was told she may never run again, and potentially needed a full knee replacement. Her years of running were over.  After getting her MRI and getting a few opinions, it was clear Sharon didn’t need a replacement, but she did need her knee cap reattached.

Dr. Phil Davidson, with Heiden & Davidson was the Doctor who did the most amazing, brilliant surgery with Sharon March 7th.  Three months into recovery, she was told she could begin to run again.  Sharon chose to take it easy and not race this summer, but thought by October she could give it a try.  Sharon just competed in the Prove Halloween 1/2 Marathon running a 1:39:05, just 25 seconds off her 2nd fastest time, and placing 3rd in her age group!  There must be some type of magic in her work…........ check out her weekly classes, workshops and presentations which are all available on line at her website, http://www.sharonstarika.com

In addition to Sharon’s weekly classes, workshops and private sessions Sharon has become a Monthly writer/coach for “Triedge.net.”
