About Board Bulletin. We have decided to communicate with members directly through a regular “Board Bulletin” that will be easily identified as coming from the FGNA Board of Directors. We welcome your comments.
This year’s Feldenkrais Method® Conference and annual meeting wrapped up on September 2. It was a smaller Conference than last year and yet a great spirit of community was felt. The Board extends heartfelt thanks to Conference Program chair Julie Francis and the Program Committee for putting together a series of powerful workshops and morning ATM®s. A big thank-you also to Suzane Van Amburgh, Conference Coordinator and all FGNA staff, as well as the other volunteers who helped in so many ways.
The Board of Directors met for 2.5 days prior to the Conference, together with FGNA’s new Executive Director, Bruce Day, and former Interim Executive Director Andrea Wiener. We confirmed our strategic goals and directed Bruce and his staff to implement them. Three of the goals were identified as top priorities:
The Board has given Bruce its full support as he begins to review, consult and propose action to move forward with our strategic plan. One of his first tasks will be to address the overall communication practices and procedures of FGNA.
At the annual meeting on August 30, many members expressed wishes for the longevity of the Guild, and at the same time a desire for more transparency. The Board acknowledged the need for transparency and outlined some steps to improve transparency, including “Board Bulletins.”
There was a lot of frustration expressed around the current path towards becoming a Trainer. Jeff Haller spoke at some length, providing an interesting new perspective on Training models, as well as an in-depth overview of the history and importance of separating certification from graduation. Board and members left with a feeling that the time is right for making changes that will support the growth of the Feldenkrais Method.
The Board extends a huge vote of thanks to Andrea Wiener for her extraordinary job as Interim Executive Director these past nine months. Her commitment and dedication to her work, as well as to the Method, is unparalleled.
We will also thank Rich Goldsand who is leaving the Board. He will be missed but is continuing as a member of the Finance Committee and as Treasurer of FGNA and FEFNA.
